Health & Safety Monitoring for Three Counties Agricultural Society Showground in United Kingdom.

Project Details.

  • Customer: Three Counties Agricultural Society Showground

  • Project Partners: Milesight IoT , DecentLab, RAK Wireless, Wavetrend, Polysense, Seeed Studio, Kerlink , Actility

  • Background: The Three Counties Agricultural Society (TCAS) Showground, located near Malvern in the UK, is one of the region’s largest event venues, hosting multiple large-scale agricultural and public events each year with up to 30,000 visitors per event. These events rely heavily on temporary structures, outdoor facilities, and widely distributed infrastructure, creating complex operational, safety, and compliance challenges. To enhance health and safety, reduce operational overhead, and modernise site-wide monitoring, TCAS sought a wireless, scalable, and low-maintenance sensing solution capable of operating across a large outdoor area without reliance on wired infrastructure.

  • Challenge: The Showground faced several key challenges:

    • Lack of real-time wind and weather visibility, critical for managing temporary structures

    • Manual legionella risk management, requiring frequent water temperature checks and flushing across dozens of distributed water outlets

    • High labour costs and delayed response times due to manual inspections

    • Need for a solution capable of operating across a large, geographically dispersed site

    • Requirement to integrate multiple sensor types into a single monitoring platform

    • The solution needed to be reliable during major events, easy to expand, and capable of supporting future smart infrastructure use cases

  • Solution Provided:

    • CyRIC IoT designed and delivered a site-wide LoRaWAN® network and distributed sensor suite, enabling continuous monitoring of critical safety and environmental parameters across the Showground. The solution included, but not limited to:

      • LoRaWAN outdoor gateway infrastructure providing full site coverage

      • Weather and wind monitoring stations for real-time risk assessment related to temporary structures

      • Lightning detection to support proactive event safety decisions

      • Water temperature sensors installed across multiple toilet blocks, kitchens, and other facilities

      • Automated alerts and reporting via the CyRIC IoT cloud platform

      • All sensor data is transmitted wirelessly and visualised in a centralised dashboard, allowing the TCAS operations team to monitor conditions in near real time and respond proactively.
